Stern shaft,also known as tail shaft,one side connect to propeller,other side connect to intermediate shaft with coupling

35# forged steel

1.The chemical composition of forging shall be to comply with the following requirements:

Cr, Mo, Ni, Cu are considered as residuals elements unless limit content shown on above table.

2.The mechanical properties of forgings after heat treatment should be to comply with the requirements


3. Shaft shall be normalizing and tempered (the tempering temperature should be not less than 550℃) after rough machining in order to eliminate inner stress. and Non destructive test should be done according to requirement.

4. The surface of shaft shall be no scar, nick, sharp angle, burr; and the rounded corner should be smooth.

316 stainless steel

1.The chemical composition of the stainless steel forging shall be to comply with the following requirements:

high quality marine stern shaft

2.After heat treatment, the mechanical properties of the stainless steel forging  shall be to comply with the following requirements:

high quality marine stern shaft

3.Non-destructive testing shall be carried out as required after processing.

4.Shaft surface should be no scars, notches, no acute angle, burr, rounded corners should be smooth.


304 stainless steel
